Pat Hedegard
Pat Hedegard’s professional career began with her BS in Education, teaching until the birth of the first of her three children. When her youngest was three years old, Pat began coursework at the Christian Theological Seminary, an ecumenical seminary in Indianapolis with a counseling program steeped in psychodynamic theory.
As Pat began her own therapy she became intrigued by the process of change and the conditions under which it could occur. She joined IPI in 2003 at the suggestion of her graduate school professor, Brian Grant PhD. Grant was a graduate of the two-year program while it was still at the Washington School. Sight unseen, Pat took a “leap of faith” and joined the Core Program at IPI.
Delighted with the rich experience of being surrounded by like-minded professionals, Pat found the Affective Learning Model to be a powerful component of her education, “providing students with the opportunity to integrate and internalize theory as well as group dynamics by immersion in the process”. Pat continued at IPI in the Pre-Fellows and Fellows programs and is currently in her first year of the Analytic Institute.
At present, Pat has a private practice with five other psychotherapists in Indianapolis. “My dream has always been to bring IPI closer to Indianapolis in order increase the psychodynamic offerings in the area. If we build it, they will come!”
