IPI offers an infant observation seminars led by IPI Faculty. The seminars link participants across the U.S. Seminars meet by telephone 2-3 times per month.
In the tradition of Esther Bick of the British Psychoanalytical Society, the goal is to learn how personality forms in the natural setting of the ordinary family The task for the seminar participant is to observe a baby in its home surroundings without influencing the course of events. Participants present their observations, discuss colleagues’ observations, and process their reactions so as to develop hypotheses about developmental processes and to improve their capacities for observation. Please contact us for more information about joining the infant observation group.
IPI will be glad to offer seminars by video link or teleconference to groups at other sites by arrangement. To inquire, contact us at IPI.

THE YEAR OF PROJECTIVE IDENTIFICATION AND PRIMITIVE MENTAL PROCESSES
10 MONTHLY TELEPHONE SEMINARS
BEGINNING IN 2011
For the year of 2011 the "Year of" seminar will focus on "The Year of Projective Identification and Primitive Mental Processes". Each seminar is an hour and a half and CE credits are available. A key object relations theme is selected as the focus of the year for the seminar participants to study in depth. The seminar faculty select readings for each month to anchor the discussion on the theoretical and clinical implications of the concept of the year. This series began in 2009 with "The Year of the Transference" followed this year, 2010, with "The Year of the Countertransference". The Seminar meets on the phone one evening per month for 10 months of the year for a total of 10 meeting. Five faculty from IPI rotate in each month to lead the discussion on the relevant readings. Currently we have two groups meeting: One group meets on Mondays 8-9:30 PM ET. The second group meets on Wednesdays 7:30-9PM ET. These times will stay the same for year 2011. The groups will have a maximum of 10 participants. The cost of the seminar is $440.
