Community Service Faculty Survey

In 2006, IPI's Executive Committee conducted a survey to determine the kinds and extent of community service being offered by IPI’s faculty. The survey yielded some very encouraging results.

Of the faculty members who responded to the survey (48.5% responded), three offer some of their services for no fee, and all offer services for reduced fees, with an average of 21 hours per month of reduced fee services.

A full 50 percent of responding faculty contribute non-paid services to local or national organizations (at an average of 9.16 hours per month), perform non-paid services for non-profit boards (an average of 7 hours per month), and provide non-paid educational services, such as lectures and presentations, to the general public (average of 2.94 hours per month).

38% contribute non-paid services to organizations devoted to helping special populations (average of 3 hours per month), and 62.5% donated money or other material goods to charity-based organizations (average of $967) in the past year.

32% have designed clinical or psychologically oriented programs in support of their communities for no fee (average of 10.6 hours spent on this per month), and 12.5% have provided clinical services at reduced fees for these kinds of programs, at an average of 18 hours per month.

These data show that as an organization IPI is an active agent in the community, providing pro bono (or near pro bono) services at significant rates. In the next few months, look for the Community Service Committee to expand on this survey by polling all IPI members.
