IPI's Infant Observation Seminar

Members of IPI's long-standing Infant Observation Seminar, with seminar leader Jeanne Magagna

The Infant Observation Seminar follows the tradition of Esther Bick of the Tavistock Clinic. The goal is to learn how personality forms in the natural setting of the ordinary family. The task for the seminar participants is to observe a baby in its home surroundings for one hour each week without influencing the course of evens. The seminar's focus on the observer's experience leads to a high-impact, deeply personal learning as participants present their observations, discuss their colleagues' observations, and process their reactions so as to develop hypotheses about development and improve their capacities for observation.

A new Infant Observation Seminar is currently forming - see Distance Learning Seminars for more information.
