Chair: Sheila Hill, M.S.W.

Chair of Admissions Committee: Nancy Bakalar, M.D.

Beginning September, 2011

Dear IPI Members and Friends,

Attached you will find the application form for the new Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Certificate Program (PPCP) which will begin in September, 2011. This is a two year program designed to enhance theoretical understanding and practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy derived largely from an object relations perspective.

The structure of the PPCP includes attendance over a two year period at eight IPI weekend conferences and 60 weekly meetings during four semesters of 15 weeks each. Students will meet by telephone conference call on Friday mornings from 10 am to noon eastern time. Each 15 week semester will consist of nine weeks of didactic discussion, taught by IPI faculty; the other six weeks will consist of clinical case conference the first hour in which students present their clinical work, and the second hour will be devoted to small group GAM (Group Affective Model) meetings led by a PPCP Coordinator.

The program will also require participants to complete three supervisions: two individual supervisions at 35 hours each and a third supervision which may be either individual (35 hours), paired (50 hours) or group (90 hours). The tuition for the course is $4160 per year.

Requirements for application to the PPCP are:

  • Completion of the two year IPI Program in Object Relations Theory and Practice (The 'Core' Program) or equivalent from another institution.
  • Professional degree in a mental health specialty.
  • Currently active in clinical practice.
  • Malpractice Insurance and being in good standing with your professional organizations.

  • Proficiency with email, internet and PepWeb.

  • Two letters of recommendation from supervisors or teachers who are familiar with your recent clinical work.
  • Application fee of $50.

Applications are due to Nancy Bakalar, M.D., chair of the PPCP Admissions Committee by July 15, 2011. After your application is reviewed, you will be contacted for interviews by faculty members.
